Lose Weight 8 Comments »

Well, i really want this shirt. But it doesnt have it in my size. So im trying to lose weight to be able to buy it. (I’ve been wanting to lose weight for awile). So how much weight do you have to lose to go a clothing size down? 2 clothing size down? 3 clothing size down?

My experience seems to be about the same as the other responders before me. 10 pounds loss got me from waist 34 to 33. I want to get to 32 so I guess that’s another 10 pounds. Bummer!

What is the best way to lose weight without losing your breasts?

Lose Weight 3 Comments »

Hi. Is there anyway you can lose weight without losing your breasts or losing weight but getting the size of your breasts bigger?

That's the first thing to go on me too! Try working your pectoral muscles underneath your breasts. That won't make them bigger but working the muscles will make them perkier.

How long does it take to lose weight from a single workout?

Lose Weight 4 Comments »

My question is on a few different levels. Please feel free to be longwinded because I really want to learn about this.

I've been losing weight over the last 2 months on diet alone. I've lost about 12 pounds this way. I understand how this works - you can lose weight by reducing caloric intake and changing the types of foods you eat.

What I want to understand is how exercise makes you lose weight. I have the beginnnings of understanding on this - that you're burning calories with the exercise…like if you eat 1400 calories in a day and you burn 300 then your body only thinks you have eaten 1100, right?

But then how do all those old calories come off? The ones from three months ago that made me gain weight?

On the same vein, if i've only been losing weight with diet (steadily), and then i have one really good workout, when will it be reflected in my weight? I'm not saying I expect to lose all my weight with one workout, I'm trying to simplify the question.

You burn calories at rest. The higher your metabolism, the more calories you will burn while exercising, and the more you will burn at rest, the idea is to raise your metabolism.
If you just QUIT eating, your body will go into starvation mode and think to itself "HEY no food coming in… all systems SLOW down we need to conserve what we've got" So you have to eat.

If you have good muscle tone it is your goal not to lose it. You want to gain muscle and lose fat. Muscle also weighs more than fat, so instead of going so much by the 'scale', you should be judging progress by how your clothes fit instead.

So a person needs to eat… healthily. Every 4 hours, so you dont have that low blood sugar 'crashing' thing going on. No sugar, little fat, a lot of greens and veggies, drink much fluids (64 ounces a day plus an extra 8 ounces for every 20 pounds overweight), a 'deck of cards' sized portion worth of protein every day (only one day a week red meat) and complex carbohydrates (whole grains).
IF you are taking in less food than the 2500 calories a person of normal weight would eat, then it is logical to assume you would be taking in less vitamins than you need, SO you need a daily vitamin supplement.
The ideal exercise regimen would include 30 minutes of walking daily, three times a week aerobic training (get heart-rate up)
and two or three times a week weight training. All this can be done at home (without a gym) but a gym with a personal fitness trainer is always nice. Oprah has one, why shouldn't YOU?
Also don't forget about:
-stress (dont need that… laughter best medicine, stay in good humor, be happy)
-rest (need to sleep and get those REMs)
-not smoking
-little alcohol or caffiene

I also say that you should do things to make yourself happy, like a nice hair trim (trip to salon for facial manicure pedicure etc.)
buy a nice new shirt every time you lose five pounds and get your teeth bleached at the dentist office.
Good luck on reaching your goal and congratulations on your progress thus far.

How do i lose weight without building muscle under the fat?

Lose Weight 1 Comment »

I need to know how to lose weight without building muscle under the fat. I know that cardio is good…but what are some good cardio excercises? im 13 and i dont want anyone to know im trying to lose weight because its embarrassing for me…it just is. so i cant go out and buy special stuff cuz my dad s gonna want an explanation. anyways….my diet….i dont care if its healthy. i need to lose weight in lik e a week…so i know i might gain the weight back by not eating healthy…but i dont care i just need this for an occasion. i reall wanna lose weight on my stomach and my thighs. how do i do this without building muscle under my stomach?

thanks.

ok look,
the answer is very obvious- don't eat too much!!
think about it- the countries where people don't stuff themselves with food, such as asia, the people are slim, and in perfect health

today, the society is all about food
we're eating because the food tastes good, not because we're hungry!
you see food ads on tv, magazines, everywhere!
food is everywhere, you cannot go anywhere without being offered food!
you need to learn to resist the temptations.

back in the older days, you didn't eat everyday! you ate when you hunted and caught food!

you would be perfectly fine not eating for a day, it's actually good for you because it cleanses out your body!! all that getting a minumum of at least 1500 calories a day is BS!! you can survive perfectly fine on just 500 calories consumed from HEALTHY food. Sure, you'll have an uncontrollable desire to eat, but trust me, you'll LIVE.

and all this diet crap is aimed at overweight consumers. the media suggests that anorexia is bad, all these models are dying blablahblah..that's all just to make the normal obese american feel better!! i mean, how often do they show people dying from being overweight???

there's really no need to eat junk food either. it's a waste of money, and all it does is make you fat!! think about it. twinkies and soda and chips don't fill you up, they just taste good, which makes you want to eat more!

look at the skinny people nowadays. they don't constantly crave for icecream or stuff themselves with food whenever they see it.

How to lose weight in an apartment?

Lose Weight 5 Comments »

I am homeschooled and I have recently become overweight. I am about 5"0 at 136 pounds. We live in an apartment and I can't really go around much in this neighborhood. There have been some crimes recently and we live next to a train station and a highway. My parents won't take me to a gym and we don't really go much anywhere. My dad SOMETIMES takes me to go on a bike ride, but that's once in a blue moon. I need to lose weight. I am only a kid, so I don't know how to exercise. I used to be really active and skinny, but ever since we moved here, I can't do much. Please help. Don't bother and waste my time if you have insults or ridiculuous idiotic things to say. Only people who want to help me. My idea to lose weight would be about 20 to 30 pounds, and I want a six pack. Please help. Any ideas of how to lose weight accepted, except insults.

Working Out in Your Apartment
Turn your apartment into a fitness factory! You don’t even need to buy a home gym!

Depending on your goals and preferences, you might want to buy one, or more, of the following items:

Jump rope (high intensity cardio)
Mini-trampoline (mid-intensity cardio)
Exercise DVD (for those who like guidance and motivation)
Free weights or an exercise band (strength training)
Exercise ball (core strength)
These items are inexpensive and can add to your workout but they’re really not necessary. Read on for tips on improvising and creating your own routine.

Cardiovascular Exercise
This type of exercise increases your heart rate and tones your muscles. Here are some suggestions:

Jog in place and do jumping jacks.
Jump rope (start slowly as this is very high intensity).
If you have stairs, run up and down or use only the bottom step to jump on and off, using both feet.
Do old-fashioned aerobics (think 80’s dancing). Aim for at least 20 minutes and make sure your heart rate is elevated.
For a more effective calorie-burning routine, alternate five minutes of cardio with one of the strength exercises below until you’ve worked every muscle group. This is called circuit training and should keep your heart rate elevated. When your heart rate remains high throughout your exercise time, you burn more calories.
Strength Training
Compliment your cardio routine with strength training. Strength exercises are necessary for a complete workout. Building muscle raises your resting metabolic rate, which means you burn more calories throughout the day. If you aren’t into the big and bulky muscle builder look, don’t worry about it. It’s pretty much impossible for you to get that way without incredibly intense training and supplements. Follow this full-body plan 2-3 days a week for the best results.

Arms - You can either purchase an exercise band (about $10 at a retail store), free weights (prices very by weight) or fill up a milk carton with water or sand until it reaches your desired weight. Do 12-20 repetitions of bicep curls, tricep dips and shoulder raises.

Chest - Get on the floor and do some old fashioned pushups—as many as you can do without losing your form. Start on your knees if you’re a beginner. Also do a press with your band or weights. Lie on the floor and hold a weight in each hand. Lift them straight over your chest and lower slowly. (12-20 reps)

Back - Stand with your feet hip-width apart and bend forward. Grasp a weight, or a weighted object, in each hand and hold your arms out in front of you with a bend in your elbow. Use your back muscles to lift the weights to shoulder length and lower slowly. (12-20 reps)

Legs Squats - Stand up straight with your back against the wall and bend your knees until they are almost parallel with the floor. (12-20 reps)

Lunges - Stand with one foot 2-3 feet in front of the other. Bend both legs as low as you can without allowing your front knee to go over your toes. Keep your back straight the entire time. (12-20 reps)

Abs - Do 25-50 traditional crunches on the floor. Lie on the floor and put your hands behind your head gently. Lift your head up, not forward and focus your eyes in front of you. Hold in your stomach muscles the entire time and breathe after every crunch.

Toning/Flexibility
Every workout needs a stretching component so that your well-toned muscles can look their best—and not cramp up at work the next day. There are myriads of different stretches but here are a few you can do to keep limber:

Purchase a stretching video: Dim the lights and make it a relaxing experience.
Do yoga: This can be a workout in itself. Look for a book or video on hatha yoga, the style that focuses on stretching poses.
Recall your basketball team days: The warm-up and cool-down exercises you did as a high school athlete are still useful today.
Now don’t you feel better? Try to get in a workout 4-5 days a week to really notice a change in your body and energy level. Now your only problem is the neighbors below you…be courteous and workout during daytime hours so that you’re not getting angry knocks on your door mid-crunch!
