Confused on my weight loss?

Weight Loss Step 2 3 Comments »

I had been working hard at the gym and eating right for several months at couldn't seem to reach my weight loss goal of about 5-7 lbs. I couldn't seem to get below 130lbs and I felt like I was working my butt off. The past 2 months I pulled way back on the working out due to an insanely busy schedule. I eventually found myself eating more junk food than before when I was working out and eating right. Since then, I've recently returned to the gym and upon stepping on the scale I've lost more weight than when I was trying to lose weight, I lost the 5lbs. What the heck is going on? Why would I have lost weight after no working out and not so great food as compared to not being able to drop the few pounds the right way?

You were building muscle before — weighs more than fat. You stopped working out, muscles relaxed and your body has not had enough time to put the weight back on from the fast food. Continue to eat good and you will be just fine.

no weight loss in 10 days of working out more then usual?

Weight Loss Step 2 5 Comments »

I am 6'2 and have been trying to lose wieght for the last 2 months
so far i went from 295 to 268 just eating less and working out maybe 4 times a week. But i have been stuck at 268 for quite some time now and 10 days ago i even stepped up on my workouts. I now do cardio for 30-45 mins atleast 2 times a day 6 days a week also lifting weights every ther day and been watching what i eat as usual. Why have i stopped losing weight??

Well, here's the deal: you're likely overdoing it at the gym. Training 6 days a week and doing weights every other day is too much. What you need to realize is that excessive exercise can stress the central nervous system (CNS), and once that goes into overdrive, some nasty things can start to happen: a slower metabolism, fluid retention, poor sleep patterns, etc. So, I recommend you cut back to like 4 workouts a week, but work out like there's no tommorow during those 4 sessions. And we're not talking workouts that my grandmother could do with her eyes closed either, we're talking full fledged workouts where you put your heart and soul into it. Also, do this for me: for the next 2 weeks, try some ENTIRELY NEW exercises. Your routine may have become too much of a routine — keep your body guessing, and do something different at the gym. Also alternate your caloric intake. Whatever you do, don't let your body get used to your routine, this is why people plateau. Some great routines to kick any plateau in the butt are sprints, squats, deadlifts, jump roping.

How can I get over my weight loss plateau?

Weight Loss Step 2 7 Comments »

I started eating right and an exercise program in September of 2007. I have since lost 50 lbs, but I have been stuck for about a month now. I am trying to eat more to make sure I hit at least 1,200 calories. And I am trying differant things at the gym. I work out with a personel trainer once a week, body pump once a week, kickboxing 2-3 times a week, step and cardio hip hop. I haven't been doing the eliptical as much as I use to but I am involved in more classes. My trainer has suggested running on the treadmill as well. I am turning 30 next week and I really want to start it off right. Any suggestions on how to jump start my weight loss again? I have 50-40 lbs to go.

Congratulations on the progress!! :)

I agree 100% with Numb ~ Everytime I hit a plateau, I go treat myself at a restaraunt - anything I've been craving, and that usually shocks my body back into submission! Maybe even a couple of days of cheating…then right back in the grind the following day.

One thing you could try (I'm not sure of your current meal plan) is doing a carb-free diet for several weeks; or if you are already doing that, then switch to simple healthy meals. (Ex: Chicken breast, broccoli, sweet potato, low-fat bread, and so on).

Main Idea being to switch the ENTIRE food consumption to see if this changes things for you!

They say the longer it takes you to take the weight off ~ the more likely you'll be to KEEP it off!

And certainly running on the treadmill will give you results, but if you are not physically able to, or if this just puts too much stress on your body - don't do it! You are exercising, and that is what matters. Walking 15-20 mins. daily can also do wonders!

Good Luck and keep up the great work!

WEIGHT LOSS - help?

Weight Loss Step 2 5 Comments »

is 45 minutes every night 7 days a week on a stationary bike enough to lose weight? do i need to step it up to an hour to see any results?

i've been eating very healthily as well, and also doing lots of walking and walking 20 flights of stairs 3 times a week.

it's only been about 2 weeks but I don't see any difference, no inches lost or no weight lost.

when will the loss begin to show?

Thankyou :) I work for 20 mins at a moderate speed, and then the remaining 25 mins interval training, 2 mins as fast as I can go, 2 mins slow/moderate.

and my diet is fairly low on carbs, if i do have carbs its brown pasta or brown brea, lots of fruit and veg and lean meats.

only been like 2 weeks i just wanna know when i will see a difference - IF i will!

Thanks :)
Wow! Good for you! It sounds like you've been working really hard! Don't forget to leave like a day off to relax and rest your body. Your body will hate you if you don't give it a break. If you overwork yourself, you'll just end up hurting yourself. 45 minutes is sufficient, don't work out for too long. You need rest! Make sure you don't go to sleep too late. At least 6-7 hours of sleep for an adult. 7-10 hours for a child. Results will start to show around like a month/3-4 weeks. Make sure you don't starve yourself and always have a little bit of everything. A lot of fruits and veggies are good! Don't drink any soda or those things. Always choose water, and orange juice and apple juice. Vitamin water isn't great for you either. It's really just artificially flavored sugar water. Stay away from Gatorade; it's not as good for you as it sounds. And it has a lot of sugar in it. 3 meals a day, breakfast should be the biggest so you can burn it off during the day. A light lunch. If you want a snack(prob around 3/4 o'clock if u eat lunch around 11/12 pm.), eat an apple or other fruits or even a couple of carrots! Good luck!!

Weight loss success through DDR?

Weight Loss Step 2 4 Comments »

I normaly hate any sort of cardio excercise: biking, running, rowing, taebo, etc. I have tried alot of it but I just can't stand it. A few years agao my sister had a party and some one brought DDR. I fell in love I thinks it's awesome. I've been playing for 3 or so years. I usually play 7-9 step level. I have had minor success with weight loss through DDR but I have never dieted and played alot at the same time. In january I gave up "fake and fried foods" so no pop candy fries chicken wings etc. To my delight I have stuck to it. I still eat things like pizza but I don't snack anymore. My question then is this. Has anyone had success losing weight with DDR. If so how many calories did you burn in one play through. What mixes did you play? Favourite song? How much weight did you lose? My other question does it sound plausible to lose 2-3lbs a week playing DDR 30-60mins a day burning 500-1000 calories? I got a wedding coming up and I would like to look good for my bride

yeah thats cardio, as long as you are increasing your heart rate and then resting and then repeating the process you are speeding up your metab, but you need to stay true to your diet. If not it would make as much sense as someone going to McDonalds and ordering the super size meal and a Diet Coke
