I remember hearing this phrase as a young Christian: God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life. And I think this is a true statement. But sometimes it seemed to me that discovering His plan and finding His will for my life was like trying to hit the bull’s eye in a dart board game where you couldn’t actually see the bull’s eye: “Oops, you were waaay off! Sorry, game over!”
A big part of why we would even want to hear from God is because we do want to live in His will, and we do want and need guidance. But maybe His guidance is more like a “choose your own adventure” storybook rather than a win-lose dart board game. Yes, God is very interested in us becoming and doing all that he created us to be and do, but remember, he invites us into relationship – one that is not coercive or controlling. He respects and takes delight in our individual uniqueness, and gives us all kind of freedom to take the initiative.
