There are less than three months until the 2024 Mr. Olympia and bodybuilder Wesley Vissers is doing everything within his power to knock off the champion. Taking to YouTube on July 28, 2024, Vissers joined Ronnie Coleman for a demanding chest and triceps workout in preparation for the biggest event of the year.
Given Chris Bumstead’s dominance as the reigning five-time Classic Physique Olympia, questions about who could dethrone him continue to surface. Last year, Ramon Queiroz gave him a run for his money but was unable to prevent Cbum from winning gold despite an untimely lat tear. Vissers took seventh place in this same contest.
Of late, Vissers claimed gold at the Arnold Classic and replicated that success at the Arnold Classic UK show. In Ohio, he managed to upset Queiroz, leaving fans to wonder how he’d fare in a rematch against ‘Cbum.’ The curiosity will give way to answers soon as Vissers intends to overthrow Bumstead under the bright lights in just a few weeks.

In between sets on the vertical chest press machine, Vissers elaborates on his weight cap for the Classic Physique division.
“Yeah, I’m allowed to weigh 249 pounds. I’m pretty tall so I’m allowed a little bit more weight. I’m usually around 246 pounds. Yeah, I still have some room left.”
“What are you going to do when you get to your max?” asks Coleman.
“Luckily, I don’t have to put on so much muscle anymore. I’m almost there. So, we’ll see,” says Vissers. “There’s always improvements to be made.”
Coleman and Vissers moved to the next chest movement to round out their pumps with quality contractions.
“It’s heavier than it looks,” said Vissers.
“It is kind of heavy. I told you. I think it’s the laying down position,” responds Coleman.
“Yeah, you’re not in a strong position.”
After sets on the overhead triceps extension machine, Vissers and Coleman moved to lying EZ bar skull crushers to tax their triceps, executing 20 reps on each set.
“How does that feel?” asks Coleman.
“Yeah, pretty light still.”
“For me, you’re also an old-school bodybuilder, you do old-school movements, that’s really what this stands for, going back to the roots of bodybuilding. That’s why I love movements like this as well,” explains Vissers.
Some voices in bodybuilding expect Vissers to give Chris Bumstead a tough night this October. Judge Terrick El Guindy and Chris Cormier believe Bumstead’s knack for injuries could hinder his chances on the marquee stage. They suggested that Vissers has the potential to overpower Bumstead, especially in the front double biceps pose.
Vissers took in all the information he could while training with bodybuilding legend Ronnie Coleman. Don’t miss his attempt to earn gold at the 2024 Mr. Olympia this October when the event returns for its 60th anniversary in Las Vegas, Nevada.
